Ever wanted to tell
policy makers just how their policies are impacting on the lives of ordinary
seniors? Ever felt that your voice was lost in the wilderness? Well now,
thanks to the Council on the Ageing (WA) Inc., Seniors can have a direct
line to COTA's Policy machine via an electronic bulletin board which is
accessible from any computer linked to the Internet anywhere in the world.
Mr Ken Marston, COTA(WA)'s policy officer, said "The New Web based
Policy Bulletin Board is proving to be very popular. If you haven't visited
it yet have a look at our home page www.cotawa.asn.au and have your say."
In launching the site at the Council's offices today the Minister for
Seniors, the Hon. June van de Klashorst MLA, said that she was proud to
see that once again Western Australia was leading the way. The site is
a first for the State Seniors and a first for the COTA Federation.

Mr Barker, Executive Director of
COTA(WA), explained that soliciting feedback from Seniors was essential
if COTA(WA) was to fulfil its vision of protecting and promoting the well
being of all older Australians.
"Getting feedback has traditionally involved working with other
organisations, standing committees, focus groups and written communications.
Whilst we will maintain these processes, the bulletin board will cut the
cost of soliciting feedback from individual Seniors from over $1 to less
than 1c.
If this feedback mechanism proves successful it will be adopted by other
State and Territory COTAs, COTA's Organisational members and perhaps even
Nationally." He said.
Mr Marston explained that "The site is designed to solicit feedback
from Seniors on a range of issues and provides a real thermometer of public
opinion. The Site can be monitored not only by us to help guide our input
into policy work but also by the government and government officials that
develop the policy that has the potential to impact on Seniors."
